Human Rights Developments in Iran and Their Impact on Regional and International Security

The Canadian Arab Congress for Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) expresses its deep concern over the continued severe violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Iran, including the high number of civilian casualties resulting from the excessive use of governmental force against peaceful protesters, as well as the arbitrary arrests and executions of activists and journalists. CACMR emphasizes that the absence of independent judicial accountability undermines the foundations of human dignity and the citizens’ right to peacefully express their aspirations, constituting a breach of international covenants and the United Nations Charter.

CACMR further warns that the continuation of this repressive approach, coupled with the depletion of national resources to fund armed groups that threaten regional security, may have serious consequences for stability in the Middle East and negatively impact the global economy and the safety of international navigation in the Gulf. In this context, CACMR underscores the necessity of full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the broader international community to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and to prevent the risks of an arms race, thereby strengthening international peace and security.

Within the framework of the international stance, CACMR commends Canada’s decisive and leading role in supporting human rights, including the designation of the “Iranian Revolutionary Guard” as a terrorist entity, and the Canadian and international efforts to enhance accountability and expand sanctions on entities responsible for suppressing protests or threatening regional stability.

In conclusion, the Canadian Arab Congress for Middle East and North Africa Relations stresses the importance of respecting the sovereignty of Arab states and ending the current Iranian regime’s interference in their affairs, while ensuring the protection of opposition activists abroad from any activities that threaten their safety and security. CACMR emphasizes that regional stability begins with respect for human rights domestically, adherence to international law and transparency, and support for peaceful channels of dialogue and reform as the only path toward sustainable prosperity and security in the region and the world.

حول أوضاع حقوق الإنسان في إيران وتأثيراتها على الأمن الإقليمي والدولي

يبدي الكونغرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا (CACMR) قلقه العميق إزاء استمرار الانتهاكات الجسيمة لحقوق الإنسان والحريات الأساسية في إيران، بما في ذلك اعداد الضحايا الكبيرة في صفوف المدنيين نتيجة استخدام القوة المفرطة ضد المتظاهرين السلميين والاعتقالات والاعدامات التعسفية للناشطين والصحفيين. ويؤكد الكونغرس أن غياب المساءلة القضائية المستقلة يقوض أسس الكرامة الإنسانية وحق المواطنين في التعبير السلمي عن تطلعاتهم، ويشكل خرقاً للعهود الدولية وميثاق الأمم المتحدة.

كما يحذر الكونغرس الكندي العربي من أن استمرار النهج القمعي واستنزاف الموارد الوطنية لتمويل الجماعات المسلحة التي تهدد الأمن الإقليمي، قد يؤدي إلى عواقب خطيرة على الاستقرار في الشرق الأوسط ويؤثر سلباً على الاقتصاد العالمي وسلامة الملاحة الدولية في منطقة الخليج. ويشدد الكونغرس في هذا السياق على ضرورة تعزيز التعاون الكامل مع الوكالة الدولية للطاقة الذرية والمجتمع الدولي لضمان الطابع السلمي للبرنامج النووي، ودرء مخاطر سباق التسلح، بما يعزز الأمن والسلم الدوليين.

وفي إطار الموقف الدولي، يثمن الكونغرس الدور الكندي القيادي والصارم في دعم حقوق الإنسان، بما في ذلك تصنيف "الحرس الثوري الإيراني" كياناً إرهابياً، والجهود الكندية والدولية لتعزيز المحاسبة وتوسيع نطاق العقوبات على الكيانات المسؤولة عن قمع الاحتجاجات أو تهديد الاستقرار الإقليمي. 

ختاماً، يؤكد الكونغرس ضرورة احترام سيادة الدول العربية ووقف تدخل النظام الإيراني الحالي في شؤونها، مع ضمان حماية الناشطين المعارضين في الخارج من أي أنشطة تهدد أمنهم وسلامتهم. ويشدد على أن استقرار المنطقة يبدأ باحترام حقوق الإنسان داخلياً، وبالالتزام بالقانون الدولي والشفافية، ودعم المسارات السلمية للحوار والإصلاح، كسبيل وحيد لتحقيق الازدهار والأمن المستدام في المنطقة والعالم.
