CACMR endorses the “Hormuz Initiative to Protect Global Food Security.” In light of escalating conflict in the Middle East
The Canada Arab Congress in Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR), endorses the “Hormuz Initiative to Protect Global Food Security.” In light of escalating conflict in the Middle East and its disruption of critical maritime routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, this initiative represents a pragmatic and urgently needed effort to safeguard the global flow of food, fertilizer, and essential agricultural inputs.
Modeled on the successful 2022 Black Sea Grain Initiative, the proposed framework offers a focused, humanitarian mechanism to mitigate the far-reaching impacts of conflict on global food systems.
The list of signatories reflects broad international backing and includes notable global figures such as Carl Bildt, Helen Clark, Hailemariam Desalegn, Mary Robinson, Juan Manuel Santos, Martin Griffiths, and Ibrahim Mayaki, among other experts and diplomats.
Among them are also two prominent Sudanese personalities: Mo Ibrahim, founder of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, and Ambassador Tariq Hassan Abu Saleh, alongside dozens of international leaders, including heads of state, foreign ministers, and former UN officials.
The Canada Arab Congress (CACMR) strongly supports coordinated international action, including the role of the United Nations and relevant stakeholders, to operationalize this initiative. Ensuring continued access to food and agricultural inputs is essential to preventing deepening global food insecurity and economic instability.
يؤيد الكونجرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا "مبادرة هرمز لحماية الأمن الغذائي العالمي". في ضوء تصاعد الصراع في الشرق الأوسط وتعطيله للممرات البحرية الحيوية، لا سيما عبر مضيق هرمز، تمثل هذه المبادرة جهدًا عمليًا وضروريًا للغاية لضمان استمرار تدفق الغذاء والأسمدة والمدخلات الزراعية الأساسية على مستوى العالم.

ومن بين هؤلاء شخصيتان سودانيتان بارزتان: مو إبراهيم، مؤسس مؤسسة مو إبراهيم، والسفير طارق حسن أبو صالح، إلى جانب عشرات القادة الدوليين، بمن فيهم رؤساء دول ووزراء خارجية ومسؤولون سابقون في الأمم المتحدة.
ويؤيد الكونجرس الكندي العربي بشدة العمل الدولي المنسق، بما في ذلك دور الأمم المتحدة والجهات المعنية، لتفعيل هذه المبادرة. ويُعدّ ضمان استمرار الحصول على الغذاء والمدخلات الزراعية أمراً بالغ الأهمية لمنع تفاقم انعدام الأمن الغذائي العالمي وعدم الاستقرار الاقتصادي.
