Canada and Saudi Arabia Deepen Strategic Partnership Amid Evolving Global Landscape

Canada and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia took a significant step forward in strengthening their bilateral relationship during the official visit of Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, to Riyadh. The visit underscored a shared commitment to deepening cooperation across economic, security, and diplomatic fronts at a time of increasing global complexity.

During her visit, Minister Anand met with Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, where both leaders reaffirmed the strength and longevity of Canada–Saudi relations. Minister Anand’s visit included high-level discussions with key Saudi officials, including Faisal Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning, and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy. These engagements focused on unlocking new opportunities for collaboration across strategic sectors critical to both nations’ future growth.

The importance of people-to-people and institutional ties was also emphasized, particularly through initiatives such as the Canada–Saudi Arabia Education Partnership Forum, held concurrently in Toronto, and the continued role of the Canada–Saudi Business Council in strengthening commercial engagement.

In addition to economic cooperation, discussions addressed pressing regional security challenges. Both Canada and Saudi Arabia expressed concern over destabilizing activities in the region and reaffirmed the importance of adherence to international law and respect for sovereignty.

Minister Anand also expressed Canada’s deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s support in facilitating the safe return of approximately 300 Canadian citizens during recent regional instability. This cooperation highlighted the strength and reliability of bilateral relations in times of crisis.

Further discussions with Saleh Al Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, explored opportunities to expand collaboration in transportation and aviation—key enablers of economic connectivity and growth.

Canada reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside Saudi Arabia to advance humanitarian efforts and protect civilians affected by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

خطت كندا والمملكة العربية السعودية خطوة هامة نحو تعزيز علاقاتهما الثنائية خلال الزيارة الرسمية التي قامت بها وزيرة الخارجية الكندية، أنيتا أناند، إلى الرياض. وأكدت الزيارة التزامهما المشترك بتعميق التعاون في المجالات الاقتصادية والأمنية والدبلوماسية في ظل تزايد تعقيدات العالم.

وخلال زيارتها، التقت الوزيرة أناند مع وزير الخارجية السعودي، الأمير فيصل بن فرحان آل سعود، حيث أكد الزعيمان مجددًا على متانة العلاقات الكندية السعودية وعمقها. فعلى مدى أكثر من خمسة عقود، بنى البلدان شراكة راسخة على المصالح المشتركة، بما في ذلك النمو الاقتصادي والاستقرار الإقليمي والسلام الدولي.

إلى جانب التعاون الاقتصادي، تناولت المباحثات التحديات الأمنية الإقليمية الملحة. أعربت كل من كندا والمملكة العربية السعودية عن قلقهما إزاء الأنشطة المزعزعة للاستقرار في المنطقة، وأكدتا مجدداً على أهمية الالتزام بالقانون الدولي واحترام السيادة.

جددت كندا التزامها بالعمل الوثيق مع شركائها في الخليج لتعزيز الاستقرار، وخفض حدة التوترات، وحماية البنية التحتية الحيوية، بما في ذلك الممرات البحرية وأنظمة الطاقة.

خلال لقائها مع جاسم البديوي، الأمين العام لمجلس التعاون الخليجي، أكدت الوزيرة أناند دعم كندا لشركاء المجلس، وشددت على أهمية تنسيق الجهود الدولية لمعالجة المخاوف الأمنية الإقليمية.

تعزيز التعاون الإنساني والاستجابة للأزمات

كما أعربت الوزيرة أناند عن تقدير كندا العميق لدعم المملكة العربية السعودية في تيسير عودة نحو 300 مواطن كندي سالمين خلال الاضطرابات الإقليمية الأخيرة. وقد أبرز هذا التعاون قوة العلاقات الثنائية ومتانتها في أوقات الأزمات.

وبحثت مباحثات أخرى مع صالح الجاسر، وزير النقل والخدمات اللوجستية، فرص توسيع التعاون في قطاعي النقل والطيران، وهما من أهم عوامل التمكين الاقتصادي والنمو.

أكدت كندا مجدداً التزامها بالعمل جنباً إلى جنب مع المملكة العربية السعودية لدعم الجهود الإنسانية وحماية المدنيين المتضررين من النزاعات الدائرة في الشرق الأوسط.
