Meeting with Turkish MP Abdurrahim Dusak Strengthens Canada–Türkiye Parliamentary and Economic Dialogue

Ottawa, Canada – February 2026

Last week in Ottawa, Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh, President of the Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR), held a productive meeting with Mr. Abdurrahim Dusak, Member of Parliament of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), during his official visit to Canada.

The meeting, hosted at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye, provided an important opportunity to exchange views on strengthening parliamentary, economic and multilateral cooperation between Canada, Türkiye and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

*Advancing Parliamentary and Multilateral Cooperation*

Mr. Dusak shared insights into his role as Rapporteur of the PUIC and highlighted the importance of enhancing dialogue and collaboration among OIC member parliaments and their international partners, including Canada. Discussions emphasized the value of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting mutual understanding, stability, and shared prosperity.

Mr. Al-Shaikh welcomed the visit and underscored the Canada Arab Congress on MENA Relations’ commitment to fostering constructive engagement with international parliamentary leaders and advancing initiatives that support economic cooperation, innovation and sustainable development across the Middle East, North Africa and partner countries.

*Strengthening Canada–Türkiye Relations*

Both sides reaffirmed the strong and longstanding relationship between Canada and Türkiye and discussed opportunities to further expand cooperation in key sectors, including:

• Trade and investment

• Innovation and technology

• Education and academic exchange

• Multilateral and parliamentary engagement

Mr. Al-Shaikh also highlighted the important role that parliamentary leaders play in facilitating connections between the private sector, government institutions and civil society.

*Commitment to Continued Engagement*

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintain close communication and explore future avenues of collaboration, including potential parliamentary exchanges, joint initiatives and engagement with business and policy leaders.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) has looks forward to building on this important dialogue and continuing to serve as a bridge between Canada and its international partners.

عقد السيد عبد اللطيف الشيخ، رئيس الكونجرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، اجتماعاً مثمراً الأسبوع الماضي في أوتاوا مع السيد عبد الرحيم دوساك، عضو البرلمان التركي في الجمعية الوطنية الكبرى ومقرر الاتحاد البرلماني للدول الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون الإسلامي، وذلك خلال زيارته الرسمية لكندا.

وقد أتاح الاجتماع، الذي استضافته سفارة جمهورية تركيا، فرصة هامة لتبادل وجهات النظر حول تعزيز التعاون البرلماني والاقتصادي والمتعدد الأطراف بين كندا وتركيا والدول الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون الإسلامي.

*الارتقاء بالتعاون البرلماني والمتعدد الأطراف*

وقدّم السيد دوساك رؤى حول دوره كمقرر للاتحاد البرلماني للدول الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون الإسلامي، وأكد على أهمية تعزيز الحوار والتعاون بين البرلمانات الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون الإسلامي وشركائها الدوليين، بما في ذلك كندا. أكدت المناقشات على أهمية الدبلوماسية البرلمانية في تعزيز التفاهم المتبادل والاستقرار، والازدهار المشترك.

ورحب السيد آل الشيخ بالزيارة، وأكد التزام الكونجرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا بتعزيز الحوار البنّاء مع قادة البرلمانات الدولية، ودفع المبادرات الداعمة للتعاون الاقتصادي والابتكار والتنمية المستدامة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا والدول الشريكة.

*تعزيز العلاقات الكندية التركية*

أكد الجانبان مجددًا على متانة العلاقات التاريخية بين كندا وتركيا، وناقشا فرص توسيع التعاون في قطاعات رئيسية، تشمل:

التجارة والاستثمار

الابتكار والتكنولوجيا

التعليم والتبادل الأكاديمي

المشاركة المتعددة الأطراف والبرلمانية

كما سلط السيد آل الشيخ الضوء على الدور المحوري الذي يضطلع به قادة البرلمانات في تيسير التواصل بين القطاع الخاص والمؤسسات الحكومية والمجتمع المدني.

*الالتزام بمواصلة التعاون*

واختتم الاجتماع بالتزام مشترك بالحفاظ على تواصل وثيق واستكشاف سبل التعاون المستقبلية، بما في ذلك التبادلات البرلمانية المحتملة، والمبادرات المشتركة، والتواصل مع قادة الأعمال والسياسات.

يتطلع الكونجرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا إلى البناء على هذا الحوار المهم ومواصلة العمل كجسر بين كندا وشركائها الدوليين.
