CACMR President Meets with the Ambassador of Iraq to Canada to Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
Ottawa, Canada — February 25, 2026 — The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) held a productive meeting at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Ottawa between CACMR President Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh and His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Hamid Al-Hussaini, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Canada.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to strengthen dialogue and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between Canada and Iraq across several strategic sectors.
During the discussions, Mr. Al-Shaikh and Ambassador Al-Hussaini emphasized the importance of fostering deeper economic, technological, and institutional partnerships between Canadian and Iraqi stakeholders. The conversation focused on expanding collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, education, technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation, supporting knowledge transfer while contributing to Iraq’s economic growth and modernization.
Both parties also explored opportunities to strengthen engagement through organized delegations and institutional exchanges aimed at fostering closer relations between the two countries. These proposed delegations would bring together political leaders, business executives, and youth representatives, creating platforms for dialogue, partnership building, and the exploration of new opportunities for cooperation.
The discussions further highlighted the role of CACMR as a platform to facilitate meaningful collaboration between Canada and the Middle East and North Africa region by fostering deeper partnerships in innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
Mr. Al-Shaikh reaffirmed CACMR’s commitment to advancing initiatives that promote economic cooperation, technological development, and people-to-people connections, while also encouraging greater engagement between the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs in Canada and Iraq.
His Excellency Ambassador Al-Hussaini welcomed the continued engagement with CACMR and expressed support for initiatives that strengthen ties between Canadian and Iraqi institutions, including the organization of targeted political, economic, and youth delegations aimed at building long-term partnerships.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared interest in developing future initiatives, delegations, and collaborative projects that will further strengthen Canada–Iraq relations and contribute to sustainable growth, innovation, and regional cooperation.

استكشف الطرفان أيضًا فرص تعزيز التعاون من خلال وفود منظمة وتبادل مؤسسي يهدف إلى توطيد العلاقات بين البلدين. وستجمع هذه الوفود المقترحة قادة سياسيين ورجال أعمال وممثلين عن الشباب، مما يُهيئ منصات للحوار وبناء الشراكات واستكشاف فرص جديدة للتعاون.
كما أبرزت المناقشات دور الكونجرس الكندي العربي كمنصة لتيسير تعاون مثمر بين كندا ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، وذلك من خلال تعزيز شراكات أعمق في مجالات الابتكار والتحول الرقمي والذكاء الاصطناعي والتقنيات الناشئة.
وأكد السيد الشيخ مجددًا التزام الكونجرس الكندي العربي بدعم المبادرات التي تُعزز التعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية التكنولوجية والتواصل بين الشعبين، مع تشجيع مشاركة أوسع بين الجيل القادم من القادة ورواد الأعمال في كندا والعراق.
ورحب سعادة السفير الحسيني بالاستمرار في التعاون مع الكونجرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط و شمال أفريقيا ، وأعرب عن دعمه للمبادرات التي تُعزز العلاقات بين المؤسسات الكندية والعراقية، بما في ذلك تنظيم وفود سياسية واقتصادية وشبابية مُستهدفة تهدف إلى بناء شراكات طويلة الأمد.
واختُتم الاجتماع بتأكيد الجانبين مجدداً على اهتمامهما المشترك بتطوير مبادرات ووفود ومشاريع تعاونية مستقبلية من شأنها تعزيز العلاقات بين كندا والعراق والمساهمة في النمو المستدام والابتكار والتعاون الإقليمي.
